Worth making a comment, I think.

Don't bother me as I am a non drinker, However some of the residents have a point. I personally would not want excessive noise at 2am in the morning when all the drunks start to go home.

Strikes me as Mr J Dorrington has nothing but full pens and to much paper!! I see he wrote into the citizen yesterday (or should i say the letter was printed in yesterdays paper) with regards to parking in the market place!! moaning about cars on the market place................. who would have thought, cars on a public roadway, how very dare they!!

As for how the other paper are reporting it, did you really expect anything else? No doubt Mr Elworthy is busy cutting and pasteing as i type.

I think some of the local residents think that the new stadium is going to be the second Wembley, with thousands of people turning up.

What were the opening hours at the bar at the old stadium?  I know I sometimes used to go for pool matches on a Sunday evening and most of the noise then was from the ladies playing bingo.

I'd be interested to hear what the experience of the residents of Lerowe Road was - did they have much to complain about regarding the bar?  Even if there is a late licence agreed, I can't imagine hoards of people being there as a regular occurrence - maybe on odd occasions.

thats right,on the odd occasion, much as it would be if someone held an 18th or 21st,or even a wedding reception in their own yard--its about time they got over it,though everytime I mention it I get letters in the mail or in the paper telling me to keep my snout out I live in Australia

Why can't these people get a life!  Go out and find something interesting to do like looking for a new house far, far away. I take it they have no children or they would see Sports facilities keep them off the streets, making new friends and keeping fit instead of going round beating up old people, stealing and making a nuisance of themselves!

Maybe one day they will want to use the new facilities to hold an event and wish they had kept their mouth's shut because the bar has to shut early.

If, like myself, they have lived here all there lives why can't they be happy to see the town with something to be proud of.  If they haven't lived here all there life go back to where you come from and moan there!!!!!!

I see in today's Wisbech Standard that Mr Elworthy has got on his high horse regarding this.

Judging by the sports "coverage" in his newspaper, it's quite clear to see that normally he's far more interested in the machinations at Fenland Hall than the what going on at the Tom Wood's Beer Fenland Stadium!

Indeed Spenny!! (if i knew what "machinations" meant, i'd comment further!!)

But hasnt it allways been the same with him/them?All negative stuff for the club.

With regards to the variation thingy, the old victoria cafe had a late liecence (about 12 years ago's) to hold strip nights!!!!! So cant see there being any problem.

.....................ooops, nearly forgot about the "massage parlour" a bit further down the road, i'm sure some standard readers could do with one of them to relax a little!!!

I have to wonder why the club have left it this late to put the application in as I always thought the 10pm closing time made no sense at all paticularly as weekday evening games would only finish at 9.45 ish. I still can't see what the Nursery Drive lot are on about as surely any noise would be minimal in their bungalows. I might understand it if the neighbours on Lynn Road were objecting though.

Probably better if the club go for a midnight closing time.

It is a pity that this application was not being made to Fenland DC as they have set a precedence by granting an hours extended licence to Wisbech St Mary hall.

This is situated on their football field and the only vehicle access is through a densely populated housing estate. All football and late night traffic has to pass through the estate some 10 foot from their doors and they are also within hearing distance of any noise pollution from the site.

Traffic from the Tom Woods Stadium will access and exit direct on to a major road without any inconvenience to any local residents. Noise pollution has been dealt with at the initial planning stage so this cannot be a problem.

I do not understand the objections and complaints from the Nursery road residents who are situated an estimated ¼ mile from vehicle movements or noise. Perhaps their next step will be to close Lynn road (which has been there since the horse and cart days) because the current traffic movements upset them!!!!

If Norfolk do not grant this application we should jack up the building and move it the 100 yards or so into the Fenland Area where it will accepted.

Yes Mr Elworthy you can print this if you want to.

I HAVE JUST PLACED THE ABOVE COMMENTS (WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE LAST 2 PARAGRAPHS AND FOLLOWING ADDITIONAL COMMENT ON THE WEST NORFOLK PLANNING SITE.

With an average match day gate of about 200 and previous club usage of 20 to 30 people I do not see this as a major problem. The special functions that the club would licence for would not amount on average to more than 1 per week and I am sure that these would be policed by the club to eliminate any nuisance value

IF ANYONE WANTS TO PLACE SIMILAR COMMENTS ON THE SITE I THINK IT WOULD HELP.

I HOPE THE CLUB ACCEPTS MY ADDITIONAL COMMENT.

Does Elsworthy have a positive idea on anything, especially to do with WTFC. The answer is no . The bloke, is, was and always has been a total ...............

I had better not use the language I want to otherwise I will get banned.

There are some very good points put on this thread but as they are positive they will go totally over Elsworthy's head.

its just typical negativity from Mr Elsworthy, why would someone living in windsor drive be worried about possible disturbance from the football club nearly half a mile away!!! it beggars belief that people read his twaddle.......oh silly me nobody reads the rubish in his paper anyway. The standard abandoned local sports coverage years ago and deserves to be treated with utter contempt.

The football club should never have had to agree to 10pm closing in the first place just to keep the luddites / doommongers happy, it would be incredibly amusing if one of these cretins produced offspring that actually wanted to use the facillitys be it football or social!!!

As for Mr Elsworthy, i may have mentioned it on here beforethat he is a total prat and uses the hardly read standard to voice his own opinion!! which is normally completely ridiculous.
