The Reserves have played two friendlies this week, both against opposition that are two steps above us in the Football Pyramid.
On Saturday we faced Wellingborough Whitworths from the UCL Divsion 1, and were beaten 7 - 1. The opponents fielded a strong first team and whilst the score was harsh, they were clinical in the taking of chances and we didn't help ourselves with a couple of the goals.
However Daz and myself were pleased that the lads gave it 100% for the 90 minutes and there were some decent performances.
We went into the game without Centre Half pairing Brad Fisher and Max Mattless, who were both on holiday, so were forced to play Brad Williams, who plays midfield for the Youth and Mark Fysh, a Right Back in the middle of the defence. a number of other lads were also missing due to work and holiday commitments.
Adam Drew scored a well taken goal in the 75th minute, and Brad Williams and Curtis Knight came close to adding to the single goal.
Last night we had accepted a friendly with March Town First Team at 24 hours notice and put up a very good fight before eventually going down 3 - 0. After the hard task of Saturday, I was unsure whether we should play against stronger opposition so soon, but the lads were all keen to play the game.
In the match Dan Fysh had a good chance to put us ahead after 15 minutes when he ran through, only to put his shot wide of Lee Brookes's left hand post.
March went ahead after around 25 minutes when we lost possession in our own half and former Fenman and March captain Luke Pepper fired home from 25 yards.
March scored again just before the break when we were caught upfield and a cross from the left was turned in.
March scored their 3rd goal after around 70 minutes with an excellent volley from just inside the box.
Dan Fysh went close again late on when he again beat the defence only to be stopped by a good save from Brookes.
Considering we were missing, in addition to the above, Adam Drew, Brad Williams, Sam Cubbs and Saturday debutant, Olly Gale, we put up another good effort, again without a recognised central defensive pairing and players playing out of position through necessity.
